The San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions have just one loss between them heading into their match-up this weekend. Can Frank Gore and Alex Smith finish the undefeated season bid for the Lions?
The San Francisco 49ers beat up on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend, but they have a seemingly much more difficult task in front of them this weekend as they travel to Ford Field to take on the undefeated Detroit Lions. For those that believe history repeats itself, the last time the Lions opened a season with six straight victories was when they defeated the 49ers, 17-13, on Nov. 4, 1956.
Heading into this season, there probably weren't many experts predicting that these two teams would have just one loss between them. Inspired play from the combination of Matthew Stafford to Calvin Johnson for the Lions and the hard running from Frank Gore and relatively mistake-free football being played by Alex Smith has allowed this game to be one of the premier match-ups in Week 6 of the NFL season.
The only injury issue that looks like it might make a difference is to Lions' tight end Tony Scheffler, who is still recovering from a concussion. Otherwise, this match-up should feature two of the better NFC teams operating with all of their firepower available.
