File this under not expected to happen but the Chicago Tribune posted a story on Tuesday morning, the day of the NFL trade deadline, that at least two teams have discussed internally the possibility of trading for Matt Forte, who continues to express his desire for a new contract.
No, this doesn't mean Forte is on the trade block in Chicago.
The Bears haven't expressed any intention of dealing their franchise back, but it hasn't stopped the other teams from exploring the possibility of acquiring Forte. The interest in Forte is not expected to facilitate any last-minute surprises before the trade deadline Tuesday.
Of course other teams have looked into the possibility. Forte and the Bears have been talking about a contract extension but haven't gotten close on the money so other teams are just preparing for the possibility that Forte won't be a Bear. Still, don't expect the Bears to trade away who is clearly their most valuable player.
So it's interesting to talk about the trade rumors around a guy like Forte but realistically he's not going anywhere before the 4:00 p.m. (ET) deadline on Tuesday.
