Raiders' Tommy Kelly Says Carson Palmer Trade Could've Been Worse

Stay connected with SB Nation

Only a few hours before the 2011 NFL trade deadline, news surfaced that the Oakland Raiders were acquiring Carson Palmer in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals, which was a move that surprised a lot of people.

Everyone knew the Raiders wanted to get another quarterback. Jason Campbell went down with an injury last Sunday and it was reported that the Raiders had reached out to free agent David Garrard as a possible replacement but Garrard announced that he needed immediate surgery on a herniated disc on his back.

So, with the Garrard news, the Raiders doubled up on their efforts to acquire Palmer, which they finally did on Tuesday afternoon. That came as a huge sigh of relief for Raiders DT Tommy Kelly who points out that things could've been a lot worse if they didn't get Palmer.

"Man, I thought we was gonna get Garrard so you can't be nothing but happy."

Somewhere, Jaguars fans are nodding their heads in agreement.
