The trade that would have sent Ronnie Brown to the Detroit Lions for Jerome Harrison was voided on Wednesday. An injury to Harrison was the snag in the deal.
The NFL world received some surprising news on Wednesday evening when it was reported that the trade between the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions that would send Ronnie Brown to Detroit has been voided. Jerome Harrison, who was part of the package headed to Philly, didn't pass his physical, which was contingent on the trade going through.
So Brown remains in Philly and Harrison remains in Detroit.
This brings up the question of Brown's future in Philly. If the Eagles were willing to trade him for a seventh round pick and Harrison, do they even want him on the team?
Apparently they do, the Philly Inquirer reports.
Brown lost his backup role to rookie Dion Lewis but will remain with the Eagles and resume his role as a reserve tailback, a team source said.
So that's that

Ronnie Brown is still with the Philadelphia Eagles and Jerome Harrison remains with the Detroit Lions after a trade deadline deal was voided on Wednesday. The deal was reportedly nullified after something came up during Harrison's physical.
Over at Pride of Detroit, Sean Yuille thinks the voided trade creates an awkward situation, leaving the Lions in a difficult spot moving forward.
This puts the Lions in a tough spot. It's going to be pretty awkward for Harrison to return to a team that tried to trade him, especially considering his health was the reason the deal didn't go through. The Lions wanted to upgrade the running back position by adding Brown, and now they're stuck with an apparently unhealthy Harrison.
If the deal had been voided in advance of the trade deadline, the Lions could have tried to work out a different deal. Since the trade deadline has passed, the Lions are stuck with Maurice Morris, Keiland Williams, Jahvid Best and Harrison as their running backs unless they release one of them and bring in a free agent.
On the other side, Bleeding Green Nation's Jason Brewer isn't too worried about the trade and the impact of it being voided.
So that means Ronnie Brown returns to the Eagles and Jerome Harrison goes back to the Lions. So... yeah. It was a minor trade to begin with so reversing it doesn't change a whole lot. Although I'm sure Brown was probably excited to go somewhere he was likely to get a shot to play a little more.
From their reactions, it seems clear the Lions needed Brown as insurance for Jahvid Best, and to shore up the run game, more than Philadelphia needed its return on the deal.

Not so fast on the NFL trade deadline move made between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Detroit Lions that was supposed to send Ronnie Brown to the Motor City. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lions running back Jerome Harrison, who was to be sent to Philadelphia along with a 2013 seventh-round draft pick, had health issues that caused the deal to fall through.
Brown was expected to secure the Lion's running back situation should Jahvid Best prove unable to play on Sunday. Best suffered his second concussion of the season over the weekend and was held out of Wednesday's practice.
For now Jerome Harrison is back to being the next option should Best be unable to play on Sunday. The Lions host the Atlanta Falcons.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions made the final move of the 2011 NFL trade deadline. Les Bowen of the Philly Daily News reports that the Eagles traded Ronnie Brown to the Lions for a 2013 seventh round pick and Jerome Harrison.
The NFL trade deadline was at 4:00 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday and news of this trade was made public right at the deadline.
Brown signed with the Eagles in the offseason after spending six seasons with the Miami Dolphins and has made little impact for the Eagles. LeSean McCoy has proven he can handle the bulk of the load so Brown had just 13 carries on the season.
The Eagles trading for Harrison sounds familiar. In 2010, they did a deal with the Browns to bring Harrison to Philly in exchange for Mike Bell. This season he's had 14 carries for 41 yards, one reception for three years and hasn't touched the ball since the third week of the season.
This is a pretty minor trade considering each player is averaging about two touches per game. SB Nation's Bleeding Green Nation and Pride of Detroit will have a full break down of the trade.
Jerome Harrison Has Brain Tumor, According To Report
Shortly before the 2011 NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions made a trade that sent Ronnie Brown to the Lions in exchange for Jerome Harrison and a seventh round pick. A day later and news broke that the trade was voided because Harrison failed his physical.
ESPN's Adam Schefter explains why he failed: Philly doctors discovered Harrison had a brain tumor. Schefter reports that Harrison is not expected to play again in 2011 and the tumor is being treated. His long-term outlook on both life and his football career appear to be good, thankfully.
Schefter notes that the voided trade might have ultimately saved Harrison's life.
Our best wishes are with Harrison as he begins the recovery process.
