Devin Hester returned a punt 69 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter of the Bears game against the Panthers. That gave the Bears some cushion on the scoreboard and a 24-10 lead.
This was Hester’s first special teams touchdown of the season. Last year, Hester scored three times on punt returns. He has not scored a kick return touchdown since 2007.
After struggling through their first three games, the Bears desperately need a win this week to get back to .500 and head off a heaping helping of criticism in the media. Their pass-first offense has come under fire, and they were looking toward contributions from elsewhere to make up some of the difference. Matt Forte has been leaned on heavily in early play.
Hester’s punt return touchdown gives the Bears a nice boost as they seek their second win of the season.
