This seemed like the perfect week for the Philadelphia Eagles to start getting their season back on the right track. Facing a San Francisco 49ers team that has not looked as good as their 2-1 record at home had the appearances of the kind of game they should win. Instead, they find themselves in a dogfight.
The 49ers scored on a 12-yard run by Frank Gore with 3:28 left to take their first lead, erasing a 17-point deficit along the way. That finished off a 77-yard drive that lasted eight plays.
On the ensuing possession, the Eagles were driving toward what could have been a game-winning score, but Jeremy Maclin fumbled near midfield after picking up a first down. Now, they face the prospects of starting 1-3 unless they can get the ball back.
If they do lose, it won't be Michael Vick's fault. Vick has thrown for a career high 416 yards, tossed two touchdowns and rushed for 75 yards.
