Ryan Mathews Injury: Chargers RB Questionable With Thumb Injury

Stay connected with SB Nation

UpdateGood news! Mathews has returned to action.

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews left the game with a thumb injury. He was seen heading to the Chargers locker room to get it checked out by team doctors. According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network on his twitter feed, Mathews is questionable to return.

In Mathews place, the Chargers will turn to back up running back and goal line back Mike Tolbert to carry the load on the ground. Luckily the Chargers have Antonio Gates back, who's already scored a touchdown, so the Chargers may not need to rely on the ground game. If they do, Tolbert has proved he can carry the load when Mathews has been injured in the past.
