The Chicago Bears released veteran safety Chris Harris earlier this week and, after the trade deadline, all players released hit the waiver wire which means every NFL team has a shot at claiming them. According to ESPN, the Detroit Lions claimed Harris off waivers.
This means Harris (and his contract) now join the Lions. If he had gone unclaimed he would've been a free agent and eligible to sign with any team.
Harris was benched by the Bears two weeks ago and requested a trade a week later. He was granted permission to see one but never found a trade partner, and the Bears ultimately released him.
Harris started his career with the Bears as a sixth round pick in the 2005 NFL draft. He spent a couple seasons in Chicago before getting traded to the Panthers and, two years later, back to the Bears.
Harris and his new team, the Lions, play the Bears on Nov. 13. Check out SB Nation's Pride of Detroit for more on the news.
