Broncos Will Stick With Tim Tebow As Starting QB

Tim Tebow had a day to forget as the Detroit Lions hammered the Denver Broncos, 45-10, but John Fox said he'll remain the team's starter.

Tim Tebow Expected To Remain Starter For Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is expected to remain the team's starter in next week's game against the Oakland Raiders, according to the Denver Post. Broncos head coach John Fox didn't commit to a starter after Tebow's 18-of-39 performance in a 45-10 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday so speculation began that the Broncos quarterback train could move onto to backup Brady Quinn.

But the Denver Post reports that Fox is expected to stick with Tebow, who has five career starts. Tebow's play, overall, has been rough but some held out hope for him after he helped engineer a 15-point comeback against the Miami Dolphins last week.

I could see the Broncos giving Tebow several more weeks even if he's struggling. At 2-5, the Broncos season isn't headed to the playoffs so they may as well gather as much information as they can on Tebow before next April's draft. Maybe he surprises them over the better part of a season (or maybe he doesn't).

SB Nation's Mile High Report is talking Tebow today, too.

Tim Tebow Era? Broncos' John Fox Won't Commit To Starting QB

Last week against the Miami Dolphins, Tim Tebow looked terrible for 55 minutes but came back to perform like one of the league's best quarterbacks in the final five minutes to lead the Denver Broncos to an improbable comeback victory.

This week, Tebow looked terrible the entire game. His final numbers don't really do it justice: 18-of-39 for 172 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Broncos lost 45-10 to the Lions in embarrassing fashion. (And a Lions linebacker went Tebowing.)

So...the Tim Tebow experiment? Broncos coach John Fox sounds like he isn't so sure about it right now. Fox wouldn't commit to his starting quarterback next week which means the Tebow era may be over almost as quickly as it started.

The problem with Tebow is that Detroit's game plan to beat him was so simple, as Fox said: "They dared us to throw." The Denver Post includes quotes from Lions CB Chris Houston about the domination.

"We just wanted to make him be a quarterback," said Houston, who revealed the defensive game plan was based on the Lions' steadfast belief that Tebow was incapable of moving the Broncos to a score by completing six consecutive passes in any drive. "We had somebody take away his legs and made him use his arm."

Those five minutes of wonder against Miami now look like an aberration. Right here, right now, Tebow is the worst quarterback in the NFL.

So, once again, we're on Tebow watch.

VIDEO: Tim Tebow Throws Pick-Six As Nightmare Continues

I have no idea where this throw was going. It was just that bad. But then again, those two sentences sum up Tim Tebow's day as he struggles mightily against the Detroit Lions. He's never been able to get anything going and it's been almost painful to watch.

Here's the interception return, which went for a solid 100 yards. It was horrendous.

Of course, we said the same things last week, when Tebow and the Denver Broncos came back from down 15 late in the fourth quarter to force overtime and eventually win. But this isn't last week and the deficit isn't 15; it's 41. And two Tebow turnovers account for 14 of the 44 points the Lions have put up.

VIDEO: Tim Tebow Fumble Returned For Lions TD

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is having a rough day. Struggling to do much of anything, besides get sacked, with the Broncos' offense, Tebow made a costly third quarter fumble that dug the hole even deeper for the Broncos. At this point, a fourth quarter comeback like last week's seems all but impossible.

Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril sacked Tebow on second down early in the third quarter. The sack resulted in a fumble which Avril scooped up to return 24 yards for a touchdown. That gave Detroit a 31-3 lead over the Broncos. Check out the video of Tebow's fumble and Avril's touchdown.

Fortunately for Avril and the Lions, he declined the opportunity for some Tebowing following his sack. He even declined to add to the Lions' Tebowing today.

Halfway through the third quarter, Tebow has completed just four of 13 passes for 37 yards. On the ground, he has 15 yards on four rushing attempts.

Matthew Stafford Fantasy: Lions QB Owns The Broncos Early

Detroit Lions quarterback Matt Stafford looked iffy for this week's game against the Denver Broncos earlier the week. He suited up, and the Lions could not be happier. Through the first two quarters of play, Stafford has 191 yards and two touchdowns. He has completed 16 of 22 passes as Detroit leads a laugher 24-3.

If Matthew Stafford could stay healthy long enough to play in the Lions' game against the Denver Broncos, he was ready for a tasty matchup with Calvin Johnson against a struggling secondary.

The Broncos are ranked 19th in the league against the pass, and, other than dominating the Dolphins' Matt Moore last week, have been carved up by the likes of Philip Rivers, Jason Campbell and Matt Hasselbeck, with whom Stafford is certainly on par, if not superior. The only question remained, would he play, or would Shaun Hill benefit from the matchup?

VIDEO: Titus Young 41-Yard TD Puts Detroit On The Board

The Detroit Lions scored their first touchdown of the day through air, something that will come as no surprise since Matt Stafford was in action. However, Stafford did not connect with Calvin Johnson for this touchdown, as would be the logical guess. Instead, he hit rookie wide receiver Titus Young on a 41-yard pass for the score.

The Lions' touchdown came after Denver kicked a field goal on their opening drive of the game.

Through the first quarter, Young leads all Detroit receivers with three catches for 58 yards and a touchdown. Matt Stafford is a perfect seven for seven with 83 yards passing.

This was Young's first touchdown of the season. Prior to this game he had just 15 receptions and 209 yards. Young was a second-round pick out of Boise state. Speedy, most viewed him as a downfield threat in Detroit's loaded offense, which is exactly what he has been today.

Matthew Stafford Status Update: Lions QB Questionable, Should Start

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford injured his ankle last week against the Atlanta Falcons, but is expected to play on Sunday. Stafford was limited all week in practice until Friday when he went in full. He's officially listed as questionable on the injury report.

Stafford will be going up against a poor Denver pass defense and he's thrown at least two touchdowns in 6 of his 7 starts this year. There's no reason to believe Stafford's ankle will downgrade his play enough to warrant sitting him this week. The Broncos defense is horrible and he should be able to pick their secondary apart, even with Champ Bailey likely being on Calvin Johnson all game long. Stafford has 16 passing touchdowns on the season with only 4 interceptions.

Willis McGahee Injury Update: Broncos RB Out With Hand Injury

Denver Broncos running back Willis McGahee has been ruled out of this weeks game against the Detroit Lions with a hand injury he suffered against the Miami Dolphins. It's likely that this injury will keep McGahee out for more than just a single week. Prior to the injury, McGahee had taken over as the Broncos primary running back, averaging about 70 yards a game on the ground.

Expect former first round pick Knowshon Moreno to get the bulk of the carries with McGahee out, but in the redzone it's more likely Tim Tebow runs the football himself, especially on the goal line. Moreno will likely do his damage catching screen passes and short throws out of the backfield more so than running the ball between the tackles.

Jahvid Best Injury Update: Lions RB Still Out With Concussion

The Detroit Lions will be without running back Jahvid Best once again as he is still sitting out due to a concussion he suffered two weeks ago. The Lions will give him another week off as they get ready for their Week 9 bye week. There was talk about Best sitting out the entire season due to the concussion, but it looks like the Lions will give him plenty of time to recover and see where he's at prior to Week 10.

In Best's absence, look for Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams to once again rotate in the backfield. With the Lions going against the Broncos porous rush defense, whoever starts at running back should be adequate. Last week, Williams had 44 rushing yards on just 9 carries against the Falcons.
