The San Francisco 49ers aren't much on winning pretty. But riding Frank Gore is a pretty good way for the Niners to keep winning: he rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown, and San Francisco kept Cleveland's offense under wraps in a 20-10 Week 8 win.
Gore's running was the heart of the Niners offense, but Alex Smith's renaissance as a competent game manager also continues apace. The former No. 1 NFL Draft pick threw for 177 yards and a touchdown, and made no glaring errors.
In fairness, Colt McCoy had a monopoly on those. He fumbled four times, losing one, and also threw an interception. And without a competent running game (five Browns runners combined for 66 yards), McCoy was left to compensate by throwing. With 241 yards and a touchdown on 22 completions, he fell a bit short.
The Browns never got closer than seven points after San Francisco's opening drive.
San Francisco improves to 6-1 on the season with the victory; Cleveland falls to 3-4 on the year with the loss.
