New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs has a grade one MCL sprain, according to Will Caroll of SI.com. He will sit out today’s practice, which puts his status for this week’s game against the Seahawks in serious doubt.

Schefter reporting Brandon Jacobs has MCL sprain. Sources tell me it’s Grade I and problem is swelling. Jacobs doesn’t rely on lateral move.

Jacobs missed the Giants’ Thursday practice, the second time this week he sat on the sidelines while his team worked.

Jacobs has an average of 3.1 yards per carry on 38 carries through four games this season. He has two rushing touchdowns to go along with his 116 total rushing yards. Teammate Ahmad Bradshaw has done the lion’s share of the rushing work for the Giants with 55 total carries and an average of 4.1 yards per attempt.

The Giants are heavily favored at home against the Seahawks this week. Jacobs has been the Giants’ power guy, seeing a number of touches in short yardage situations and in goal-line carries.
