Call it the luck of the draw, but the Oakland Raiders can't seem to escape playing the league's most proficient offenses in the season's early going. Now at 2-2 with losses to the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots, the Raiders will have to take on one of the league's most balanced attack on the road in the Houston Texans.
Houston is coming off a 17-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. What's discouraging for Oakland is that Arian Foster appears to be at full strength after garnering 30 carries for 155 yards against a stout defensive front. Foster should touch the ball early and often, opening up the Matt Schaub to Andre Johnson connection.
After giving up 409 total yards on Sunday, the Raiders' defense will need to shore itself up quickly. Luckily the offense is performing better than expected. The running game averaged 5.9 yards per carry Sunday, and if quarterback Jason Campbell had been a little smarter on a couple throws the Raiders may have been able to mount a comeback.
The Texans are your likely favorites in this matchup, but the Raiders have proven time and again that they are nothing if not erratic. That, and Darren McFadden, are reason enough to keep a tight watch on this game.
