Houston Texans outside linebacker Mario Williams will not return to his team’s game against the Oakland Raiders today. According to the team, Williams has a pectoral injury and is done for the day.

Williams left the game in the first quarter after sacking Raiders’ quarterback Jason Campbell. At the time, there was some speculation, based on how that play unfolded, that Williams hit his finger on Campbell’s helmet. He was taken to the Houston locker room.

Williams’ sack on Campbell was his fifth of the season. The one-time first-overall pick in the NFL draft has been an essential part of the resurgent Houston Texans. He leads the defense in sacks this season.

Pectoral injuries can be a tricky matter for players, especially defenders who make their living taking opposing players downs.

Williams’ injury could not have come at a worse time for Houston. They are already shorthanded on offense with wide receive Andre Johnson out for three weeks.
