The Kansas City Chiefs needed someone to help fill the void for Jamaal Charles, and nobody had done so until today. Jackie Battle helped the Chiefs squeeze out a 28-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Battle finished the game with 119 rushing yards on 19 carries.
Battle took a brutal helmet-to-helmet hit on the Chiefs’ last series of the game. He had to be helped up, but was able to walk off the field without assistance from his teammates or the training staff.
Until today, Battle had mostly been a special teams player. He was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Chiefs in 2007, and had a total of just 51 career rushing attempts.
Battle was part of a Chiefs offense that kept the Colts winless on the season.
