The Oakland Raiders will rreportedly have Pro Bowl kicker Sebastian Janikowski available on Thursday Night Football. Janikowski has been dealing with a hamstring issue the last three weeks but was able to kick this past Sunday against the Denver Broncos. He has sat out practice all week for the Raiders, but likely tested it sufficiently yesterday to give the team the thumbs-up heading into the the huge divisional showdown with the San Diego Chargers.
Janikowski normally is a huge addition to the Raiders offense because he is so good when it comes to 50+ yard field goals. While he does not finish at the top in terms of overall accuracy, few kickers can match him on 55-57 yard field goals. That usually means that when the Raiders get to their opponent's 40 yard line, they are officially inside Seabass' range.
While the Raiders will have their big kicker in the lineup, there will be some concern about kicking those 50+ yard field goals. It will be interesting to see what options the Raiders consider that first time they are faced with that kind of decision. Whether they kick or punt will tell us a lot about how well Janikowski actually feels.
