Read More: Matthew Stafford (QB - DET), Detroit Lions
Matthew Stafford did not have a very good day for the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Despite the fact that he threw for 329 yards, Stafford threw a shocking four interceptions, including two pick sixes that effectively ended the game in the third quarter. It was uncharacteristic for Stafford, who despite some inconsistent play, has largely had a good season. There may be an explanation for his erratic throws, however. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press passed along the info that Stafford has a fractured index finger on his throwing hand.
There's a bit of a catch here, though. He didn't sustain the injury during this game. He actually picked up the injury against Denver, then played this week. He was listed as probable with an injured finger on the injury report, so this isn't a terribly stunning revelation, but it seemed like the injury was affecting him during the game.
Stafford threw the ball an astonishing 63 times in this game with an injury that the coaching staff knew about. Jim Schwartz will probably catch a bit of criticism for this during the week.
