LaDainian Tomlinson has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain in his left knee, and is likely doubtful for Thursday's game against the Denver Broncos according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. While it is good news that injury is not more serious, the short turnaround only strengthens the chances that Tomlinson rests this week.
Tomlinson's absence would mean an increased role for Joe McKnight, who has seen his touches increase in recent weeks. Outside of kick returns, he had a season-high nine carries in Week 9 against Buffalo, though he gained just 27 yards on the day. Shonn Greene should continue to propel the Jet's running game. He has had at least 20 carries in three of his last five outings.
In an odd twist, Tomlinson was injured on a hit by wide receiver Julian Edelman, who was playing nickel back for a depleted Patriots' secondary. Tomlinson has been instrumental to the Jets' offense on third downs despite occupying the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.
