The New York Jets may very well be without running back LaDainian Tomlinson on Thursday night when they take on Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos. Earlier today ESPN's Adam Schefter reported via Twitter that Tomlinson suffered a setback in Tuesday's practice. Schefter added that the Jets were "not optimistic" about his availability on Thursday.
A subsequent report from the New York Daily News cited a source who said that Tomlinson will not play against the Broncos this week. The Daily News report also said that rookie running back Bilal Powell will be activated for the game. Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan said that Tomlinson will be a game-time decision if he travels with the team to Denver on Wednesday.
The short week for the Jets might be the biggest factor in the decision, as Tomlinson explained.
If the game was Sunday, for sure I know I'd be able to play. Since it's on Thursday, I can't say that I'm going to be able to make it.
