The Panthers may be winless on the road, but that hasn't kept them from being favorites against the Colts.
The Carolina Panthers may be just 2-8, including 0-4 on the road, but that hasn't kept oddsmakers from making them the favorite on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. The Panthers are being pegged as 3- to 4-point favorites, which is clearly much more of a statement about anyone's faith in the 0-10 Colts.
The faith may be well placed, actually. Despite their forgettable record, the Panthers are 5-5 against the spread. The Colts, despite being pretty significant underdogs almost every week, are only 2-8 ATS. The over/under of about 44.5 seems to be more of a commentary on the awfulness of both teams' defenses than anything about their offenses. The Colts are averaging just 13.1 points per game, but allow 30.0.
On paper, the Panthers are the better team almost across the board. Their offense, led by No. 1 pick Cam Newton, has scored an average of 22.1 points per game. The problem has been their defense, which has allowed 28.6 points per game.
Still, you gotta like the Panthers here, warts and all. Heck, you may even want to take the over as Newton could put up some serious numbers.
