Lions Put Jahvid Best On Injured Reserve

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Detroit Lions have decided to place Jahvid Best on injured reserve, according to the Lions website. Best hasn't played since suffering a concussion in Week 6 and there was speculation that his season could be over because it's his second concussion since training camp.

Best has a history of concussions so the Lions were being as cautious as they could with his long-term health.

"From the outset, we have been appropriately cautious and have followed all medical protocol with respect to Jahvid's injury," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Friday. "We look forward to his continued improvement and eventual return to the field."

In six games this season, Best has run for 390 yards on 84 carries and three total touchdowns.

In the immediate future, the Lions have an issue at running back. Kevin Smith went down with an ankle injury against the Packers on Thanksgiving so if he can't go it'll be Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams.
