The Houston Texans haven't had the best quarterback luck over the last couple of weeks losing both Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart to season-ending injuries. They're down to rookie T.J. Yates and Kellen Clemens so they've decided to bolster that group a little bit by adding free agent Jake Delhomme.
The Texans worked out a number of quarterbacks after Schaub's injury, and ultimately signed Clemens. They also worked out a couple of quarterbacks (Delhomme and Jeff Garcia) after Leinart's injury, and decided to go with Delhomme.
The Texans are 8-3 and in control of the AFC South so they needed a veteran who could potentially step in quickly depending on Yates' performance. Delhomme has been in the league ince 1999 and most recently started four games for the Browns in 2010.
For his career, Delhomme, 36, is completing nearly 60 percent of his passes with over 20,000 career passing yards, 125 touchdowns and 101 interceptions. He appeared in the 2005 Super Bowl while a member of the Panthers.

With Matt Schaub on injured reserve with a foot injury, and Matt Leinart set to join him after fracturing his left collarbone on Sunday, the Houston Texans will sign either Jake Delhomme or Jeff Garcia on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Garcia was one of five quarterbacks that worked out for the club last week and will work out alongside Delhomme on Tuesday. That initial group of quarterbacks included former NFL starters Kellen Clemens, Trent Edwards and Brodie Croyle, as well as Chase Clement, who played in the United Football League following his collegiate career at Houston-based Rice University.
The Texans signed Clemens to be the No. 3 quarterback behind Leinart and 2011 fifth-round pick T.J. Yates, who is now the de facto starter of an 8-3 team that has a two-game lead over the Tennessee Titans in the AFC South standings. Texans head coach Gary Kubiak made it known on Monday that he wanted to add a quarterback with experience to the roster.
"We’ve got a young quarterback and a backup who’s been here for four days," Kubiak said according to the Houston Chronicle. "So we’ve got to find some experience, somebody who’s been in a few rodeos, and make sure we’re preparing for down the road."
The 41-year-old Garcia spent five seasons with current Texans quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp with the San Francisco 49ers. but has not thrown a pass or started an NFL game since the 2008 season. The 36-year-old Delhomme started four games for the Cleveland Browns last season, completing over 60 percent of his pass attempts, but was intercepted seven times and replaced in the starting lineup by Colt McCoy. The Browns released Delhomme from the final year of his contract once the lockout was lifted.

The headlines look all too familiar for the Houston Texans: Starting quarterback is out for the year. Matt Leinart, who was replacing Matt Schaub, went down with a shoulder injury on Sunday and shortly after that word leaked that the Texans feared he had a broken collarbone.
Texans head coach Gary Kubiak spoke to the media on Monday and confirmed that Leinart will need surgery on a broken collarbone. The attention now turns to T.J. Yates, the rookie who apparently becomes the new starting quarterback.
The Texans signed Kellen Clemens when Schaub went down and a couple of rumors have connected them to other free agent quarterbacks. They reportedly like Brodie Croyle and could consider him and there have also been reports that Sage Rosenfels could be in play if released by the Dolphins.
Kubiak said the Texans would bring in another quarterback. Presumably they'll want to do that sooner rather than later to prepare for Week 13.

The Houston Texans quarterback woes took another bad turn as backup QB Matt Leinart suffered what folks believe is a season-ending collarbone break. Leinart was making his first start in place of Matt Schaub who suffered his own season-ending foot injury two weeks ago. Leinart was off to a solid start, completing 10 of 13 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown before he was driven into the ground on a pass attempt.
The Texans called on rookie T.J. Yates who was 8 of 15 for 70 yards with four rushes for -3 yards. The Texans were able to hold onto their win in a tough divisional road victory. Yates was not wildly impressive in his debut, but he didn't make any bad mistakes.
If Leinart did suffer a broken collarbone and is out for the year, the team is likely to try and sign a free agent quarterback. There are not a lot of options, so it is possible Yates will get a shot at holding onto the starting job. The Texans are built around their rushing game and defense, so a fairly low-key QB isn't necessarily a bad option.
As the Texans move forward, the fantasy implications are numerous. They will likely focus in on the rushing attack. Arian Foster is already a top fantasy option, but this could mean more touches for Ben Tate. He is a tough play given his backup role, but if the team goes to even more of a rush-heavy attack, Tate would likely benefit. On the other hand, the wide receivers and tight ends become sizable question marks in fantasy football. Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels remain solid starts given their talent, but their upside might be going down.

Matt Leinart may be done for the year. Making his first start of the season for the Houston Texans in place of the injured Matt Schaub, Leinart was knocked out of Sunday's game before halftime with a collarbone injury. The official word on Leinart's status won't be determined until he undergoes more tests, but he's not expecting good news.
"There's a pretty strong possibility I probably won't be coming back this season," Leinart said.
For the Texans, the timing couldn't be worse, especially considering Leinart looked surprisingly good before leaving. He didn't rack up many yards, but he completed 10-of-13 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown in nearly two quarters of work, steering the Texans to a 20-10 halftime lead.
Leinart knows a thing or two about this type of injury, suffering a broken left collarbone in 2007. That injury opened the door for Kurt Warner to regain the starting job, which he'd hold onto until retiring following the 2009 season.
Several outlets, including the NFL Network, report the Texans share Leinart's fear, although publicly head coach Gary Kubiak isn't jumping to any conclusions, telling reporters that X-rays were inconclusive.
"I know he's very disappointed ... We'll keep our fingers crossed until we get home," Kubiak said, according to the Texans' official Twitter account.
With Schaub already on the Injured Reserve and Leinart's status now in doubt, T.J. Yates, who was third on the depth chart just a couple of weeks ago, could be in line start the rest of the season. He completed 8-of-15 passes for 70 yards after replacing Leinart.

One week after losing Matt Schaub for the season to a foot injury, the Houston Texans are now reportedly worried that backup quarterback Matt Leinart may be out for an extended period as well. According to a report in Pro Football Talk, the Texans think Leinart may have broken his collarbone on a second quarter play.
A broken collarbone would almost certainly end Leinart's season. He first broke his collarbone in 2007, an injury that cost him his rookie season.
Leinart was looking at least halfway decent before this injury, completing 10 of 13 passes and tossing a touchdown. T.J. Yates replaced Leinart after the injury and has not been asked to do much. He has completed 3 of 7 passes for 39 yards, as the Texans have built a 20-10 lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With Matt Leinart in the midst of having himself a pretty solid day, it only makes sense that he'd go down with an injury. After trying to throw the ball away to avoid a sack, Leinart was driven into the ground and immediately went to the sidelines. After being briefly inspected, he went to the locker room. After halftime, it was announced he would miss the rest of the game.
Prior to getting hurt, Leinart had completed 10 of 13 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. He was far from dominant, but he was looking competent, which was more than many of us expected.
After the injury, 2011 fifth-round draft pick T.J. Yates became the third Texans quarterback to throw a pass in the last two weeks. Yates looked decent, completing 3 of 6 passes for 36 yards. He led the Texans to a field goal that gave them a 20-10 lead heading into halftime.
Whether or not Leinart returns, though, you have to imagine the Texans will be relying heavily on Arian Foster. He has 62 yards and a touchdown so far.
