Philip Rivers Fantasy Recap: San Diego Chargers QB Continues Pick Parade

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has struggled mightily in 2011, throwing 14 interceptions through eight games. He is one away from his career-high of 15 as he has simply not been able to get completely on track. He continued these struggles in week nine as he threw another three interceptions against the Green Bay Packers. He put up some huge passing numbers as well, which helped to provide some significant fantasy value. Rivers finished with 385 passing yards and four passing touchdowns.

Rivers and the Chargers host the Oakland Raiders, who are coming off a game in which Tim Tebow was able to throw a pair of touchdown passes. The Raiders secondary has been questionable all season and Rivers could be in line for a big performance. Even with the interceptions he's had enough big yardage days to make up for it to some extent. The interceptions simply bring his fantasy performances out of the stratosphere and back to reality.

Rivers performance provided another glimpse into a continually struggling Packers defense. They have put up some solid efforts, but more often than not they have given up a significant amount of points on a fairly regular basis. They are prone to some shootouts, which bodes well for quarterbacks facing them in the coming weeks. Add in the highly prolific Packers offense putting teams in a trailing position and it only means more pass attempts.

James Jones Fantasy Stats: Just One Catch In Packers High-Scoring Victory

James Jones is one of many options in Aaron Rodgers' potent Green Bay Packers passing offense, often leading to either boom or bust performances for his fantasy football owners. In Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers, it was a bit of both.

Jones caught just one pass in his team's 45-38 victory, but that lone grab was a 21-yard touchdown reception. Rodgers hooked up with three other receivers for his three other touchdowns, though, so it doesn't exactly mean anything going forward.

Jones had 326 receiving yard on the season with three receiving touchdowns entering Week 9. Jones was averaging 47 yards receiving per game. Jones' receiving yards per game were up nearly 5 yards per game from last season.

Jones was ranked as the 29th ranked wide receiver according to Yahoo! heading into his match up with the San Diego Chargers who rank 4th against the pass, giving up 186 passing yards per game.

VIDEO: Onside Kick, Vincent Jackson Touchdown Cuts Packers Lead

After scoring a touchdown to cut the Green Bay Packers' lead down to a two touchdowns, the San Diego Chargers recovered an onside kick with a little more than seven minutes remaining. They recovered the ball on their own 45-yard line. On the following drive, Phillip Rivers connected with Vincent Jackson for a 29-yard touchdown pass that cut the Packers' lead to just a single touchdown.

Here is a video of the onside kick that San Diego managed to recover at a critical time.

Three plays and two consecutive first downs later, Rivers hit Jackson deep on the right side of the field for a 29-yard touchdown pass. It was Jackson's third touchdown of the game. He has seven catches for 141 yards to go with those three touchdowns.

With more than two minutes left to play, San Diego needs a touchdown to tie the game and beat the undefeated Packers, something that would be one of the bigger upsets of the season.

VIDEO: Philip Rivers With A Second Pick Six

Phillip Rivers giveth. Philip Rivers taketh away. After throwing an early touchdown to Vincent Jackson, Rivers promptly tossed a pair of interceptions that were returned for touchdowns to put the San Diego Chargers in a 21-7 hole.

The Chargers have no come back to make it 21-14. Yes, it looks like it's going to be that kind of game.

Mike Tolbert Status Update: Chargers RB Will Play, Could Start

San Diego Chargers running back Mike Tolbert is listed as probable on the injury report with a hamstring. Tolbert practice in full all week for the Chargers and could wind up starting the game, depending on Ryan Mathews status. Tolbert has been the primary goal line back for the Chargers and will be likely playing in a shoot out against the Green Bay Packers.

Ryan Mathews status for the game is still up in the air and looks like a game time decision, so Tolbert should be in your starting line up if he's on your roster. He's normally good for a RB2 or 3 play anyway, but with how limited Mathews was during the week, it's looking likely that Tolbert will get the majority of the touches.

Ryan Mathews Status Update: Chargers RB Game Time Decision

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews is officially listed as questionable on the Chargers injury report, but it looks like he will be a dread game time decision. Mathews missed some practice time during the week, including Friday, dealing with a hamstring injury. He was not expected to play, but some Chargers beat writers tend to suggest it's still possible Mathews is a go.

This is a tricky situation if Mathews is on your roster. Late game game time decisions are difficult and the game against the Green Bay Packers is likely to be a shoot out. If you have another viable option on your bench, your safest bet is to place someone else for Mathews. If Mathews can't go, expect Mike Tolbert to carry the load.

Malcom Floyd Status Update: Chargers WR May Not Play

San DIego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd looks to be a game time decision against the Green Bay Packers. Floyd has been dealing with a hip injury he may have sustained on Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs. Floyd missed practice all week long dealing with the injury and the Chargers even signed a wide receiver to their active roster on Saturday.

Unless you're desperate, Floyd looks like a wide receiver you should steer clear of because he may not even play. If he does play, it's likely he will be limited in the passing game, having missed practice all week. Without Floyd in the line up, expect Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates to be force fed the football, especially in what looks to be like a shootout.

Vincent Jackson Status Update: Chargers WR Expected To Start

Wide receiver Vincent Jackson has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has him listed as probable on the San Diego Chargers injury report. Jackson missed practice on Wednesday and was limited the rest of the week, but he is expected to play on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

The Chargers could already be without wide receiver Malcom Floyd, who missed practice all week, so losing Jackson would be a big blow to the offense. Jackson should be in your starting line up however and he figures to get quite a bit of targets in the game. It's expected to be a shootout on Sunday, so Jackson and Antonio Gates should dominated the offensive looks in the game, especially with Floyd dealing with a hip injury.
