San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has struggled mightily in 2011, throwing 14 interceptions through eight games. He is one away from his career-high of 15 as he has simply not been able to get completely on track. He continued these struggles in week nine as he threw another three interceptions against the Green Bay Packers. He put up some huge passing numbers as well, which helped to provide some significant fantasy value. Rivers finished with 385 passing yards and four passing touchdowns.
Rivers and the Chargers host the Oakland Raiders, who are coming off a game in which Tim Tebow was able to throw a pair of touchdown passes. The Raiders secondary has been questionable all season and Rivers could be in line for a big performance. Even with the interceptions he's had enough big yardage days to make up for it to some extent. The interceptions simply bring his fantasy performances out of the stratosphere and back to reality.
Rivers performance provided another glimpse into a continually struggling Packers defense. They have put up some solid efforts, but more often than not they have given up a significant amount of points on a fairly regular basis. They are prone to some shootouts, which bodes well for quarterbacks facing them in the coming weeks. Add in the highly prolific Packers offense putting teams in a trailing position and it only means more pass attempts.
