We break down the news that 49ers RB Frank Gore suffered an ankle sprain in Sunday's victory over the Washington Redskins. For more on the 49ers, check out Niners Nation.
San Francisco 49ers running back rolled to his fifth straight 100-yard game on Sunday, but in the process he suffered a sprained ankle that leaves his status for week 10 in some doubt. Gore sprained his ankle in the second quarter, but was able to finish out the game and become the first running back in 49ers history to record five straight 100-yard games.
As the 49ers prepare for the New York Giants, Gore's status will be something to monitor when injury reports start to come out on Wednesday. It is likely that Gore will be limited in practice this week. Kendall Hunter would get the first team reps in his place. Hunter suffered a dislocated finger on Sunday but there is no indication that is any sort of long term injury. If he was also limited, Anthony Dixon would get first team carries.
Frank Gore sprained his ankle earlier in the season and when he was limited in practice he did not start against the Philadelphia Eagles. Hunter received the start, but Gore came off the bench that game and produced his first 100-yard game of the season. Depending on how much Gore practices, we could see the same thing in week ten.
