The New England Patriots got a scare last week after nearly blowing a 28-0 lead to the Indianapolis Colts. They hope to win their fifth straight game of the season when they visit the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
The New England Patriots are on a four-game winning streak. The Washington Redskins have lost seven of their last eight games. This should be a Pats win, in theory, but Bill Belichick's squad got a major scare last week after they nearly blew a 28-0 lead to the winless Indianapolis Colts. Nobody will confuse the Redskins for an offensive juggernaut, but they may not have to be to put up points against a struggling Patriots defense.
The Patriots are last in the league allowing over 310 yards passing per game. They are ripe to be exploited, for sure, though whether Rex Grossman can take advantage remains to be season. The Redskins quarterback has played well in fits and starts this season. He struggled mightily against the New York Jets last week, completing just 41.3 percent of his passes. He had completed at least 65 percent in his three prior outings, however.
Unfortunately, the Redskins' offense will be without tight end Fred Davis and left tackle Trent Williams due to four-game suspensions for repeated violation of the league's substance abuse policy. A defense that was supposed to be the relative strength of team hasn't proven up to task, either. The Redskins have given up at least 20 points in six of their last eight games, including 34 points last week to the Jets.
