The New York Giants got a huge win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night to wrest back control of the NFC East, and no one figured more prominently in the victory than Eli Manning. The Giants quarterback threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns, and led two drives late in the fourth quarter to bring New York back from a 12-point deficit on the road.
The Giants are rather pleased to have Manning under center, if their post-game quotes are any indication:
"We have a great quarterback," running back Brandon Jacobs said. "If you ask me he's the best in the business when our backs are against the wall and we need a score. He's never let me down.
"I believe in him. I believe in our offense, I believe in our coaches and they got it done."
Tom Coughlin also found Eli's resilience after a nutty interception impressive.
"He was really upset over the interception, but he comes right back," Coughlin said. "He comes right back and takes the field and away we go. He obviously made some great plays coming down the stretch."
Manning has 14 passing touchdowns in the fourth quarter this season, tying an NFL record that his brother Peyton shares, and has also led six fourth quarter comebacks. The only season in which Eli has had three fourth quarter comebacks? 2007. And three of those comebacks in the Giants' Super Bowl season came in the playoffs.
