Houston Texans Waive WR Derrick Mason

The Houston Texans dumped wide receiver Derrick Mason today. Is this the end of the line for the veteran receiver?

The Houston Texans parted ways with wide receiver Derrick Mason today, according to Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times. Whether or not this is the last stop for the 37-year old remains to be seen. Houston was the second team to employ Mason this season.

Houston acquired Mason from the New York Jets in October. The Jets signed Mason to help bolster their group of receivers, but he never caught on in their offense. Houston swapped a conditional seventh-round pick for Mason who had just 13 catches for 115 yards with the Jets.

Mason was supposed to provide some veteran help for the Texans while Andre Johnson was on the shelf. He never really panned out there either, catching just six passes in seven games with the team.

Prior to this season, Mason had a long career with the Titans, from 1997 through 2004, and then with the Ravens, from 2005 until 2010. He topped the 1,000-yard mark eight times during that stretch.
