Tim Tebow is 7-1 as a starter this year and has engineered six fourth-quarter comebacks in his first 11 starts, but Broncos coach John Fox is still reluctant to name his starter in 2012.
As you probably know by now, Tim Tebow once again led the Denver Broncos to a come-from-behind victory on Sunday. This time the victim was the Chicago Bears and once again, Tebow didn't bother to make it look pretty.
In case you're counting -- and let's be honest, you are -- that's six fourth-quarter comebacks for Tebow in his first 11 starts. Sure, he's doing it with a throwing motion that makes quarterback coaches cringe, but we're not at the point where the results are becoming undeniable.
Despite this, Broncos head coach John Fox is reluctant to anoint Tebow his starter for the 2012 season, although reports suggest that he's getting close. For his part, Fox insists he's just trying to stay focused on the team's present.
"A lot is made of the quarterback position. It's really hard to sit here and answer. We don't talk about the middle linebacker or the left corner position," Fox said. "I think, right now, just enjoy the moment. It's a team game, and we're doing well as a team. I don't like speaking too much of the future. I'm happy for each day."
For the record, it's not just that Tebow has gone 7-1 to lead the Broncos to the brink of the playoffs. He's actually putting together some pretty decent passing numbers, too. Ignore, for a second, that he's only averaging 117.3 passing yards per game and the fact that he's only thrown 11 touchdowns in eight games. His passer rating of 83.9 is perfectly respectable and he's only thrown two interceptions. Those might not be Pro Bowl numbers, but they are much better than many of us expected him to produce.
