The New Orleans Saints just continue to shoot themselves in the foot. On their previous drive, they almost were denied points after a holding penalty denied a big touchdown, but they ended up coming back to score. The drive before that, tight end Jimmy Graham fumbled after catching a pass from Drew Brees, which led to a Minnesota Vikings field goal and a 3-0 lead.
Now they've handed the Vikings some more points. Drew Brees fumbled the ball near mid-field and it was recovered by Everson Griffen, who picked it up at the 30 yard-line and took it to the 21. Minnesota looked to take advantage of the miscues with a touchdown, but after an incompletion and losses of six and four yards - an Adrian Peterson stuff and Christian Ponder sack - they settled for another field goal, a 49-yarder from Ryan Longwell.
Then it was Minnesota miscues that helped out the Saints. Minnesota was called for unnecessary roughness when Darren Sproles was hit out of bounds after a big gain. Then Marques Colston went deep to the end zone, and drew a pass interference penalty. This set them up at the one yard line, where Brees hit Graham for the short touchdown over the middle, putting them up 14-6.
