Less than a week after firing head coach Todd Haley, the Kansas City Chiefs pulled off the impossible, beating the Green Bay Packers by a final score of 19-14. Thus ends the Packers' undefeated stretch.
Less than a week after firing head coach Todd Haley, the Kansas City Chiefs pulled off the impossible, beating the Green Bay Packers by a final score of 19-14. Thus ends the Packers' undefeated stretch. As for Kansas City, it was a ringing endorsement for the idea that interim head coach Romeo Crennel could be back next season on the sidelines with the interim tag removed from his title.
Kyle Orton finally made his season debut for the Chiefs, leading the offense 299 passing yards and completing 23 of 31 passing attempts. Orton did not throw a touchdown, or an interception, but he was able to find his receivers when he needed to, picking up 18 of the Chiefs' 23 first downs in the win. Running back Jackie Battle, who had 37 yards on 10 carries, scored the Chiefs' only touchdown.
Kansas City's defense, previously led by Crennel, had the biggest impact, limiting Aaron Rodgers to just one touchdown and 235 passing yards. All together, the Packers had 315 yards of offense, compared to the Chiefs' 438 yards.
It was a costly game for the Packers, who lost two offensive tackles. Starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga left the game with a knee injury in the first half. His replacement, Derek Sherrod, was carted off the field in an air cast after a brutal leg injury later in the game. Green Bay finished the game with their second and third string tackles protecting Rodgers, who was sacked four times.
Green Bay will test their resiliency against Bears next week, and finish the season with a home game against the Lions.
Kansas City hosts Oakland next week and closes out the season against the Broncos and Tim Tebow.
