The NFL Playoff picture is typically coming into focus this time of year as only two weeks are left in the regular season. That isn't exactly clear in the AFC, however, a the Wild Card playoff spots are up for grabs following the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders losing on Sunday afternoon.
The Jets 45-19 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles dropped them to the bottom of the AFC Wild Card standings, meaning they are still projected to make the playoffs, but just by the skin of their teeth. The Jets will likely need to beat both of their next two opponents -- the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins -- if they want to stave off the Cincinnati Bengals considering the two teams both have 8-6 records at this juncture of the season.
The Raiders loss on Sunday to the Detroit Lions hurt them quite as far as Wild Card standings are concerned. The Raiders could still move ahead of the Denver Broncos, who also lost on Sunday, and claim the AFC West's playoff bid. If that isn't the case, however, the team faces two divisional foes in the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers while already sitting at least one game out of playoff contention.
The playoff picture is far from being set, but the Jets and Raiders certainly didn't help their causes on Sunday.
