NFL Playoff Picture 2011: NFC North Belongs To Packers, But Lions In Good Shape

Stay connected with SB Nation

The NFC North was decided when the Green Bay Packers cliched the title in Week 13, but the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears are still alive in the NFC Wildcard race. For the struggling Bears, it seems like more of a mathematical technicality at this point, but the Lions are in a much better spot. After earning a victory in Week 15 to move to 9-5, the Lions currently occupy the final NFC Wildcard spot. If they win one of their final two games (vs. SD, @ GB) they are in the playoffs. If they finish with the same record as the Falcons, they will always be seeded lower than the Falcons due to a head-to-head loss.

As for the Packers, if the San Francisco 49ers lose or tie on Monday Night against the Pittsburgh Steelers, they  will clinch the No.1 seed in the NFC. They are still the favorite to earn the No.1 seed anyways, and control their own destiny in that regard, even after a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs this past weekend.
