Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain responded to his arrest today via his attorney, Billy C. Burney II. McClain was arrested on Thursday for misdemeanor assault, weapons and other charges after an altercation in Decatur, Alabama. McClain's lawyer stated that his client was innocent and expressed confidence that he would be cleared of all charges.
McClain's attorney added the following to his assertion that his client was innocent, as reported by ESPN today.
I can tell you we understand and know exactly what's going on, and we feel very comfortable with our information and we don't have any further comment at this time.
McClain was released after posting a $2,000 bond. A first-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, McClain has yet to rejoin the Raiders, who lead the AFC West and play in Miami this week.
The Raiders linebacker also faces some legal trouble stemming from a 2008 incident while he was at the University of Alabama. McClain is being sued by an Alabama student who claims that McClain hit him with his car and assaulted him.
