Andre Carter Injury: Patriots Place DE On Injured Reserve

In a move that was all but inevitable, the New England Patriots have placed defensive end Andre Carter on injured reserve, ending his season. Carter sustained a hamstring injury against the Denver Broncos on Sunday and had to leave the game in the first quarter. We learned on Monday that he would have surgery that was likely season-ending. That was confirmed Tuesday with the news that Carter would go on IR.

The good news for the Patriots is that Mark Anderson was fantastic in relief of Carter against the Broncos, but Carter will still be a massive loss. He had 10 sacks on the year before going down with his quadriceps injury and was almost certainly headed to the Pro Bowl. With the Patriots' secondary struggling this season, they'll depend on a good pass rush in the playoffs, so the team is going to have to make up for Carter's absence somehow.
