The Dallas Cowboys can clinch the NFC East with a win or a tie when they host the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
With a win over the Eagles and a loss or tie by the New York Giants, who "travel" to the New York Jets at 1pm ET on Saturday, the Cowboys would clinch their second division title in three seasons. The Cowboys can also clinch the NFC East with a tie and a loss by the Giants on Saturday.
At 6-8, the Eagles remain in the playoff hunt, needing to win out -- they host the Washington Redskins on January 1 -- and need a Giants loss this week, along with a Giants win next week over the Cowboys to create a three-way tie atop the NFC West, which the Eagles would win based on what would be a 5-1 record within the division.
"It's exciting," defensive end Marcus Spears told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram of playing a game with the playoffs on the line. "If you have blood pumping in your veins, it's exciting to be in this moment. The playoffs are on the line. We didn't have this opportunity last year. We wanted to be in this spot. We've got a chance to control our own destiny. That is all you can ask for."
