On the Minnesota Vikings’ first possession after losing running back Adrian Peterson to a nasty leg injury, Toby Gerhart did his best to temporarily put fans at ease. Gerhart broke off a 67-yard run, bolting from the Vikings’ 25-yard line all the way down to Washington’s eight-yard line. That set up a Minnesota touchdown two plays later.
Quarterback Joe Webb picked up the nine-yard touchdown two plays after Gerhart’s run. That gave the Vikings a 17-13 lead, a lead which evaporated on Washington’s next possession.
With Adrian Peterson hurt, Gerhart takes over at the Vikings’ primary running back.
It’s been a particularly rough third quarter for Minnesota. After losing Adrian Peterson, they lost quarterback Christian Ponder on the very next play. The rookie quarterback suffered a concussion when he was sacked by Adam Carriker and London Fletcher.
