With the final three Christmas Eve games underway -- all at the half or later -- it's time for a quick check of the playoff scenarios. Two in-progress games hold significant implications as teams fight for their lives. Here's a look at the current scores and scenarios.
At the half, the Seattle Seahawks lead the San Francisco 49ers, 10-3. The Seahawks need to win both their Week 16 and 17 matchups to even have a chance at the playoffs, but need lots of help. The 49ers are still in the race for a first-round bye, but also need to beat the Seahawks to remain in the hunt. San Francisco has already locked up its spot in the playoff by clinching the NFC West.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions lead the San Diego Chargers early in the second half, 24-7. The Chargers need a win to stay alive in the AFC West race, even if their chances remain long. The Seahawks also need the Lions to lose out to make the playoffs -- Detroit currently holds the second wildcard spot.
Early in the third quarter, the Eagles lead the Cowboys, 14-0. The Cowboys are without Tony Romo, but are playing in what's essentially a meaningless game. Dallas' Week 17 matchup with the New York Giants looms large, with the Cowboys needing a win to get in no matter what happens in its matchup on Saturday with the Eagles.
