Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith will be active for tonight’s prime time game against the New Orleans Saints. Smith was dealing with an ankle injury suffered in the Lions’ Thanksgiving Day loss to the Green Bay Packers. His status for the Lions’ Sunday night game this week was in doubt, and the subject of much consternation from fantasy football managers as well as Lions fans.
The Detroit Free Press confirmed the news earlier this evening.
Smith was signed prior to Week 10 to replace running back Jahvid Best, who suffered a concussion that took away one of Detroit’s offensive playmakers. Smith started his career with the Lions, but it looked like injuries had ended it last year.
In Week 11, Smith looked much like the version of his former self that dazzled the Lions’ offense. That week against Carolina, he rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 61 yards and a touchdown in that game.
