The Sunday Night Football matchup between the Detroit Lions and the hometown New Orleans Saints is underway. Early on, both teams are showing strong defense.
The Lions were stopped early on by the Saints defensive line, which was able to effectively shut down Detroit rushers and force lost yardage for a three-and-out.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees looked as if he was leading the Saints on a touchdown drive midway through the first quarter, but the Lions defense was able to keep the pressure on. Brees looked hurried and although he got his team to the Detroit red zone, was unable to find the end zone. The Lions forced a fourth down situation with the Saints still near the red zone, and New Orleans had to settle for a short field goal to get on the board first and pick up a 3-0 lead.
