Bears Not Interested In Brett Favre, According To Report

Stay connected with SB Nation

On Monday an ESPN report surfaced that veteran Brett Favre would listen if the Chicago Bears came calling about their quarterback job. The Bears lost Jay Cutler for what could end up being the entire season and backup Caleb Hanie has been less than impressive for the club so, on the surface, the report made some sense.

That said, did we really think the Bears would bring Favre in at this point in the season? Probably not and ESPN's Ed Werder cites a high ranking Bears official who says the team has no interest in adding Favre.

It's Week 14 so bringing in a quarterback who hasn't played in almost a year doesn't make a whole lot of sense, even if it is Favre. It appears that the Bears will be rolling with Hanie and hoping that Cutler can recover as soon as possible.

After a string of injuries to starting quarterbacks over the last couple weeks, Favre's name has been floated but it never got past the rumor stage. Favre reportedly said last week that he hasn't thrown a ball since early November so the chances of him being game ready aren't great anyway.

It sounds like, for now, Favre remains retired.
