A few quarterback injuries and we had ourselves a full-on Brett Favre sideshow this week. The former NFL quarterback was linked to the Houston Texans after Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart went down but nothing ever came of those rumors. He was linked to the Chicago Bears thanks to an ESPN report that Favre would listen if the Bears called. (The Bears said they weren't interested.)
This has been going on all week but Favre just released a statement to ESPN saying he's content with his non-football life.
"Inspite (sic) of reports about playing with various teams, I'm enjoying retirement with my family and have no plans to play football," Favre said in a statement Tuesday night.
So that's that, right?
I doubt. I really, really doubt. Even though Favre hasn't played at all this year, someone out there will connect Favre to an open job and because of Favre's history of retiring and un-retiring we'll have to take at least a small part of those reports and rumors seriously.
