The experts are picking the Patriots to beat the Redskins this week, well, because the Patriots are the Patriots and the Redskins are the Redskins.
The Patriots ride a four-game win streak into this contest vs. the Redskins in Week 14 of the 2011 NFL season. The Redskins, meanwhile, have lost seven of their last eight games. Things are not going so well in Washington. The expert picks reflect that around the Web this week.
SB Nation's Andrew Sharp likes the Patriots to win -- and throws a little salt in the wound -- in his NFL Picks Week 14 column:
New England at Washington (+9.5) ... The best part about this Redskins season is that they can't fire Mike Shanahan, Mike Shanahan won't fire Kyle Shanahan. As usual for Washington, there's little hope in sight.
Sports Illustrated's Peter King expects a big win for the Patriots, but counters Sharp's point:
Maybe the Patriots don't need wide receivers to win. Just throw it to Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez all day. And one point about Washington, in the lust to fire the Shanahans and start over: Whatever you think of the job Mike and Kyle Shanahan have done (and, obviously, it hasn't been good), it strikes me as dumb that they'd get whacked just before the Redskins take their quarterback of the future, which these two men were hired to shepherd.
The ESPN.com panel picked 7-1 in favor of the Patriots, with Chris Mortensen as the lone believer in the Redskins ability to exploit New England's weak secondary. The CBSSports.com panel is all-out, 5-0, for the Patriots as well.
