In early December of 2010, the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly filed a tampering charge against the Detroit Lions. According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Chiefs have won that charge. The Lions will be stripped of a seventh round draft pick and swap fifth round picks with the Chiefs.
The definition of tampering in the NFL is "any interference by a member club with the employer-employee relationship of another club or any attempt by a club to impermissably induce a person to seek employment with that club or with the NFL."
It wasn't exactly clear from where the charges originally stemmed but it was believed to start with the following comments from Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham:
"(Kansas City) keeps wanting to dump their players. I would like to be there to catch a lot of them because I know a couple of those guys."
It's also believed that there was some sort of contact between the Lions and a Chiefs player under contract, believed to be S Jarrad Page (before he was traded to the Patriots).
Both teams have until February 28 to appeal.
