Ndamukong Suh Named AP Defensive Rookie Of The Year

In the least surprising news of the day, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was named the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year on Friday. The news comes just a day after Suh was named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year, which was seen as a precursor to Friday's award. The AP award is the latest in a series of accolades for Suh, who was also named to last Sunday's Pro Bowl, though he opted not to participate while recovering from a shoulder injury.

Always gracious, Suh looked to the future after winning the award, focusing on continuing to improve going forward.

"I was fortunate to be able to grasp my role in our scheme and to flourish in it," Suh said. "I'm just going to keep working hard to improve because I'll never be satisfied."

Suh garnered 48 of a possible 50 first-place votes for the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award, with the other two going to New England Patriots cornerback Devin McCourty.

The Lions improved dramatically in 2010, finishing the season 6-10 just one year removed from a 2-14 record. Suh played a big part in that, leading all NFL defensive tackles with 10 sacks and finishing the year with 66 tackles. The only thing he couldn't do for the Lions was make an extra point.
