The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday morning that QB Michael Vick was expected to sign his franchise tag tender that day. Shortly after that, the Eagles announced Vick signed his contract.
The 2011 franchise tag number for quarterbacks is expected to be around $16 million in 2011.
Of course, that's if there actually is a franchise tag. The current CBA between the owners and players is expiring on March 3rd. After that, all bets are off as to what will be included in the next deal, but it seems most expect the franchise tag, or a similar concept, to be included in the next deal.
Assuming it is, then Vick will be under contract for 2011. We'll have to see if the Eagles try to work out a long-term deal with him. Vick says he's fine with the franchise tag in 2011 but a lot of players like to lock down a multi-year deal as quickly as possible.
