Lawrence Taylor was sentenced to six years probation on earlier this week, stemming from charges related to sex with an underage prostitute. And then he went on Fox News to explain himself...
"I'm not the cause of prostitution. And sometimes I make mistakes and I may go out there, but I didn't pick her up at no daddgone playground. She wasn't hiding behind the school bus or getting off a school bus. This is a working girl that came to my room. And I don't know what her age was. I asked her age. She told me she was 19. It is what it is."
You can watch video of the interview over at Fox News. And while we're here, you know how they say honesty is always the best policy? Yeah... Not always true.
"I don't card 'em," LT said of, um, prostitutes. "I don't ask for a birth certificate."
"It's the world of prostitution," he continued. "You never know what you're gonna get. Is it gonna be a pretty girl, an ugly girl or whatever it's gonna be. ... I'm not saying it's right, but guys, it's the oldest profession in the world." And... Hey now! It's the oldest profession in the world-defense!
So, pretty much a disaster all around for ole LT right there. Yeah, LT's a cult hero for a generation of NFL fans, and if that hasn't changed after the first hundred scandals, it probably never will.
But DAMN, man.
It's one thing to get caught in a misunderstanding that makes you look bad, but it's a lot worse to straight up miss the point in all this. Young girls get forced into the "oldest profession" every day, and all LT has to say is "I don't card 'em"? Come on LT, at least pretend to care.

uhum, so he should have blurped out a few empty, meaningless lies about finding God, and fighting hard to make a better example like Rapelisberger did?
that automatically makes someone be/look better?

Uhum, he shouldn’t have gone on TV the same day he was given 6 years probation for banging a 16 year old hooker. Theres not a single positive outcome in an interview about why you had sex with a 16 year old when you’re in your 50s.

And in how much interviews did Roethlisberger try to explain himself whith nothing but cliched BS?
LT gets way too much flak because of this, compared to some WAY bigger *ssholes.

You’re comparing one rapist to another. The point is that both of them are lowlife POS who would be better served not speaking publicly. Much easier for LT since he doesn’t play anymore. Roethlisberger has to meet with the media since he’s still the face of a franchise. Not excusing Roethlisberger and neither is Sharp, hes been very hard on him the past 9 months.

I appreciate his honesty that he doesn't card
because for the most part, I would think that he assumes that the woman is of age. The fact that she was 16 (NY’s age of consent is 17) is unfortunate because the prostitute said she was 19, and he still got nailed as a child sex offender. At least he was able to get some of the nasty rules modified given the circumstances.
I’m not condoning what Taylor did here, but I don’t agree with labeling people as child sex offenders when the other party lies about her or his age and that person is believably above the age of consent. I’m not aware of all the things in the case, but the girl’s lawyer has done enough to make sure she had justice served given that she was trafficked and the pimp is now spending hard time. If the girl gave some visible sign to LT before this went through, then I may have something different to say.
Also this throws out the prostitution debate since it’s illegal in 49 states. I believe that prostitution should be legalized nationwide, so it can be controlled, the providers can be screened throughly to see that they are of age and that they aren’t trafficked, and the services can be taxed. The government could make a lot of money off of this industry, a lot more money that they are spending to enforce the laws on a person looking to get an escort.
