NFL Lockout Deadline Is Only Hours Away

The deadline for an NFL lockout is now less than 24 hours away. At 11:59 p.m. Thursday night, the current Collective Bargaining Agreement between NFL owners and NFL players will expire and the doors will be locked.

We think, at least.

The two sides are meeting, along with a federal mediator, on Thursday morning. Our last tiny glimmer of hope is that the two sides agree this morning to extend deadline on the current agreement. Whether it's by a day, a week or a month, that would give us some hope this gets done. There is no chance a deal gets done at this point without an extension.

According to various reports, the feeling right now is that the union will, at some point today, decertify. They will have to do so before 5:00 p.m. because the judge who handles the current CBA is in Minnesota, and they need to act before it expires.

The NFL will then decide what they'll do but many think a lockout is coming. A lockout is what you think it is -- the doors are locked and players won't be coming into the stadiums to work out.

After that, it would largely be a lawyers fight.
