Santonio Holmes has claimed he won’t sign the one-year tender the New York Jets placed on him in March, according to an interview with ESPN’s Rich Cimini. He says he wants a long-term contract whether he’s declared a restricted or unrestricted free agent.
I want a contract, flat out. If I sign a contract, it will be for multiple years. It won’t be for one year. I played five years to wait for my sixth year to come up. I don’t want to play for a one-year deal. I wouldn’t do it.
The Jets placed a first- and third-round tender on Holmes, which would give them the opportunity to at least receive compensation in the form of NFL Draft picks if he leaves the team after the new collective bargaining agreement is finally, if ever, successfully negotiated.
