Michael Vick Excited About Madden Cover Contest, Could Make History

Stay connected with SB Nation

Michael Vick and Peyton Hillis are the last men standing in the Madden 12 cover contest, and Vick has a chance to become the first player to grace the cover of Madden twice. Fans have been voting in a bracket-style elimination contest over the last month, narrowing the field of 32 to two ahead of Wednesday's final vote tally.

For Vick, it's another step in his image rehabilitation tour and a chance he's not taking for granted.

"I appreciated it, but this time around I think I will appreciate it so much more. I took a lot for granted early in my career. It was a great opportunity at the time, but now it will be so much more satisfying. To show it to my kids and say I was able to accomplish."

In 2004, Vick made his first appearance on the Madden cover, but saw his career and personal life fall apart shortly thereafter. Dog-fighting charges landed the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback in prison, putting his NFL career and life on hold. In 2010, Vick was back and better than ever as he led the Philadelphia Eagles to the playoffs while showing the same electrifying style of play that made him a fan-favorite prior to his prison stint.

The polls are still open and votes can be placed here. The Madden 12 cover winner will be revealed on ESPN2's SportsNation at 4 p.m. on April 27.
