Adam Schefter reports on the New Orleans Saints' return in their trade of Reggie Bush to the Miami Dolphins.
In return for Reggie Bush, Saints received former Dolphins safety Jonathon Amaya and a swap of undisclosed draft picks.
Without knowing what the draft picks are, this doesn't tell us a whole lot. Amaya definitely had his moments on special teams last year, but he was an undrafted free agent in 2010 and didn't even make it off the practice squad until the end of October. He's a fun player, but hardly a core piece - not that one should have been expected in return for Bush.
As for Bush, the question is what his role will be in Miami. Matt Bowen notes that Bush won't play every down in Miami, and will instead be used sparingly, with the hope of racking up big plays as a change of pace. He'll also continue to be involved with returns.

We will soon be calling him former New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush. The Saints have reportedly agreed to terms on a deal that will send Bush to the Miami Dolphins. It's unclear what the compensation is at this point but as part of the deal Bush will be restructuring his contract, which was scheduled to pay him over $11 million in 2011.
According to Pro Football Talk, Bush's contract will be for two years and $9.75 million. He'll receive $5 million in year one.
This sounds about right. Depending on what the Dolphins give up, I don't think this is a bad move. They may soon be in the process of acquiring a quarterback (Kyle Orton anyone?) and that quarterback will enjoy having another weapon out of the backfield.
It's a short-term deal which should work for both sides. For the Dolphins, they don't commit a whole lot until Bush proves it over two years. For Bush, he gets another crack at free agency in two years.

The New Orleans Saints are moving on from the former No. 2 overall pick in the draft. Reports emerged late Wednesday night that the Saints and Miami Dolphins had an agreement in principle to send RB Reggie Bush to Miami. Per the report, the deal hinged on Bush renegotiating his contract.
Bush had over $11 million due to him and it was highly unlikely anyone would pay that much money to him. So, in order for the Dolphins to get the trade done, Bush re-did his deal and now has a new two-year contract with the Dolphins, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Trades can happen now but new contracts can't be consummated until Friday night when free agency really starts.
This trade certainly can't hurt for the Dolphins assuming A.) the compensation isn't huge and B.) Bush's contract isn't worth a whole lot. Bush may not be the type of player worthy of the No. 2 overall pick like he was with the Saints five years ago but he does have value, especially for a Dolphins team trying to keep their running backs together.

Reggie Bush will be traded to the Miami Dolphins, contingent on Bush restructuring his contract, according to a report from Jay Glazer. Bush has been on the outs with New Orleans since the NFL Draft, with the Saints selecting Mark Ingram in the first round and Bush essentially saying goodbye on Twitter a short time later. Since the end of the NFL lockout, little has been said about Bush's contract situation until late Wednesday night.
However, the reported trade comes with conditions, including the aforementioned contract renegotiation and a choice by Bush. Glazer is reporting Bush may still stay with New Orleans, and the ball is in his court.
I'm reporting the Saints and Fins have worked out terms of a trade for RB Reggie Bush, contingent on Bush agreeing to a new contract w Fins. Bush's agent Joel Segal negotiating w Dolphins tonight. It also hinges upon Bush taking deal and not deciding to stick w NO at reduced rate
Either way, he will have to take a pay-cut this coming season, it appears. He can head to Miami and enter a log-jam of running backs or stay in New Orleans and be in the midst of a log-jam of running backs, including Ingram, who may be the future for the Saints. In Miami, however, there are a variety of packages, including the Wildcat, that would allow Bush to utilize his skillset and, perhaps, angle for a better contract in the future.
There's sure to be more to this story, but it looks as though Bush may be out of New Orleans sooner rather than later.

New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush made headlines this offseason when he wishes New Orleans a farewell on his Twitter page shortly after the team selected RB Mark Ingram in the 2011 NFL draft. Bush eventually backtracked on his comments but it was clear the writing was on the wall -- if he wants to stay in New Orleans, he'll need to drastically reduce his $11 million-plus contract in 2011.
Another reason Bush may have realized he could be on his way in New Orleans is that the Saints told him back in February that he could shop himself to other teams. This according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports.
Bush and agent Joel Segal were told that a number of teams would be interested in paying him handsomely, or at least more than the Saints have apparently been willing to offer at this point. That is one of the reasons that Bush has made contradictory statements about his future in New Orleans and didn't participate in offseason workouts with Saints players.
Cole has also identified a few of the teams considered the most likely destinations for Bush if he leaves New Orleans, as expected. Those teams include the Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants.
Bush hasn't been incredibly productive but he still offers a unique skill-set that some coaches will undoubtedly feel they can take advantage of.
SB Nation's Canal Street Chronicles is currently asking their readers which player they think will lead the team in rushing yards. Presumably, Reggie Bush isn't the answer to that one.

The future of Reggie Bush isn't clear but one thing is coming into focus: he won't be making $11.8 million in 2011. The New Orleans Saints running back admitted that he will likely have to take a pay cut to return to New Orleans.
Bush indicated on Twitter shortly after the Saints selected RB Mark Ingram in the 2011 NFL draft that he didn't expect to be back in New Orleans. Since then, though, he's changed his tune and suggests he could return to the only NFL team he's ever known in his five-year career.
"This is something that me, my agent and the Saints have to collectively come together to talk about and just come to a meeting point - a happy medium - because obviously there's going to have to be some type of pay cut," Bush said. "There's going to have to be some type of renegotiation."
Bush simply isn't as valuable as some thought he would be when the Saints opted to use the second pick on him in the 2006 draft. He's not a feature back so his contract will need to be adjusted to reflect that.
If the Saints decide to simply release Bush and not bring him back, it's unclear who would make a run at him. His best future, in my opinion, appears to be in New Orleans at a discounted rate.
